It is often said that no one can be happy through life without succeeding at
something. The more successes the happier you will tend to be, however these do
not have to be earth shattering, world successes, or even noticed by other
people, but allow you to confirm to yourself that you are competent, and successful.
We often measure our successes by what we have overcome, and perhaps this is
the reason why people with everything seem to go out on a limb and create
themselves problems that they can overcome.
You should not equate success with owning, or getting any item, as this
is short lived and will tend to set up a cyclic action where you are only
happy and feel successful if you have that extra item, constantly chasing disappearing
rainbows. Instead feel your successes when you are able to undertake a new
skill, understand a new topic, bake a new type of cake proficiently or put
on a meal that gives pleasure to others. The feeling of success you would
get if you made a dress yourself and wore it to a family gathering would
be many times that of having bought a designer product costing many times as
much.
Also feel the success in helping others, a friend who is successful
with your help will bring you as much happiness as if it was your own, be
it a makeover that makes them happy or coaching that you gave them to get
through an interview. Being a useful member of a small support group with
your special friends will mean you get many opportunities to share in
these successes and by this help you all to become far happier.
