Enjoying Work

By work we mean any task external to your home that has a purpose and benefit to anyone, not just the sale of time to an employer.

Work allows a person to leave their home for a purpose, to  use a range of their senses to think about problems external to themselves. You can go as far as to say work is essential for a balanced mental health.

The happiest person will be a person who is doing a  form of work that serves a purpose, higher still if it benefits people or animals, and is absorbing requiring total concentration.

The most unpleasant work is where there is nothing to do, and few to interrelate with, and can then seem very similar to a prison sentence, with time dragging. repetitive tasks that have no social value are also considered less ideal and often higher rates of pay is demanded when job satisfaction decreases. Also the more honorable and fair the job appears to be the more job satisfaction there is. An example is that the senior grade of managing paramedics are paid less than the new recruited constable, yet there is a shortage of constables and officers on far higher rates of pay while no shortage of paramedics in most areas.

Many smaller firms have found that people are happy to work for lower salaries where a lot of interest is taken in them, they are appreciated, and kept very busy, and it is only when work runs short and they have more time that many start to look at other positions.
