All witchcraft groups have always been nervous of misinformation, stirred up public opinion and intolerance from those with some religious agenda.
So when a new law was passed across Europe late in 2001 that allowed an arrest warrant issued in any European country to be operative in all others, with no recourse to the local courts, we could all see potential risks. Any fundamentalist religious nut, in any small police force anywhere in Europe could get anyone they wished arrested, dragged to their country and subject to their courts.
The effect was that this web site, like so many others, was immediately withdrawn, while we worked out what to do. Conceptually we have the European civil rights laws that grants us freedom of worship etc, but against that the problem of slow, inefficient, cash driven legal systems that could be used by extremists.
We decided that we would put back a smaller system, with no individual information on a any members, groups etc, transfer a lot of the detail on craft practices and skills to the school of witchcraft site and in future keep far more information totally confidential.
